Kickoff let players in Mauritius call every score of the 2026 World Cup, build their bracket and compete in private leagues, in English and French. We launched it before the opening match and ran it live to the final.

A World Cup is six weeks of arguments about who called it. Kickoff turned them into a game: predict every match before kickoff, rank every group and pick a champion before the tournament starts, then follow the table in your own private league as the points land.
It had to work for a whole island at once: on any phone, in English or French, with results arriving while the match was still being talked about.

A score for every one of the 104 matches, editable right up to kickoff. Then the prediction locks and friends’ picks become visible.
Before the opening match: every group ranked, the best third-placed teams, the knockout bracket, the winner and a Golden Boot pick.
Private leagues with an invite code or link, a live table and a breakdown of where every point came from.
A match is worth up to 6 points: the right result, then the exact score, total goals and goal difference. In the knockouts, calling a draw after 90 minutes earns 2 more, a bonus we added once the knockouts began. Every prediction shows exactly how its points were earned.

1Groups, best thirds, knockout and Golden Boot2Each pick checked against the real table3Locked when the tournament startsNo single free feed was both fast and complete, so Kickoff listens to three. A reconciler matches teams across them every 60 seconds, takes the score from whichever is fastest and the extra time and penalties from the most complete, then rescores every prediction and every league table.
With 48 teams, eight of the twelve third-placed sides go through, and which slot each one takes depends on which groups they came from. Kickoff resolves those round-of-32 slots from FIFA’s own allocation table, and corrects every later fixture if a result feeding it changes.

Anyone could start a league and share an invite code or link. Each table shows predictions made, correct winners, exact scores and points, with a breakdown that explains every row.

The whole game in both languages, country names included, switched with one tap.
Players could show a country’s flag instead of a photo, with distinct flags for French overseas territories and Réunion’s own Lö Mavéli.
It installs to the home screen from the browser, signs in with Google or email, and works in light or dark.

A tournament doesn’t wait for a release cycle. We launched before the opening match and kept improving Kickoff between games: new results sources when one lagged, the extra-time bonus for the knockout stage, and fixes the same day a corner case appeared.
Sign-ups, predictions per day, the most backed teams and the most common scorelines, for the people running it.
Every point by day, by match and by tournament prediction, to answer any “why do I have 14?” in seconds.
A nudge 12 hours before a match for anyone who hadn’t predicted yet, with an opt-out in settings.
An email to the operators when the top-scorer feed failed, limited to one a day.
Players came back match after match: most predictions were made two to seven days before kickoff, and the average player called 83 games across the six weeks.
